A peek into a warped mind.

2010! Can you believe it has already been a decade since we all celebrated the turn of the century (well those of us that was brave enough to celebrate amiss Y2K fears).

2009 was a great year for the Asylum. The year saw just short of 3.5 million hits to the site, an increase of about 1 million over 2008. My goal for 2010 is to capitalize on this growth to continue my efforts to make The Asylum the best Canadian Xbox 360 community website available. The following is a brief look ahead on how I plan to achieve this goal. Read on for more information.

Modern Warfare 2 is out and with it came the release of the Modern Warfare 2 Special Edition Xbox 360 console. Unlike other special edition consoles (with the exception of the Halo 3 console), this one is actually different as it sports a snazzy paint job. Oh and let us not forget the 250GB drive. Hosting the NHL 10 "Gaming Night in Canada" has thrust The Asylum in the spotlight. This is a perfect time to introduce who we are to all new would be members.

The Asylum originated as a PC gaming club in the early 90s. It lasted for about 5 years before shutting its doors. It was re-opened in 2005 as a way to allow Xbox 360 gamers to find other gamers that share the same love of games.

The Asylum is shamelessly Canadian. The founding members are all from the Greater Moncton Area. As Canadians, we are proud of the contribution made by Canadians to the game industry and strive to spread this contribution to everyone. Read on for more information.

LUC DEVERAUX ON THE ISSUES - HEALTH CARE!

Luc DeverauxToronto, Ont. - Fellow gaming Canadians, I recognized that the central challenge we have confronted as a gaming nation has been the need to implement global health care reform for our gaming characters. Canada is a leader in gaming health care, but even as we have made progress, we know that the road to prosperity remains long and difficult. We also know that one essential step on our journey is to control the spiralling cost of injury related care in today’s games.

Today, we are spending over 2 billion MS points a year to cover the medical expenses of game heroes injured in the line of duty – almost 50 percent more per game hero than the next most costly gaming console. And yet, for all this spending, more of our in game characters’ serious injuries are going untreated; the quality of our care is often forcing our game characters to scavenge for discarded medical kits, plants and the occasional magic mushroom; and we aren't any healthier.  Read on for more information.

LUC DEVERAUX, AN INMATE ALL CANADIANS CAN TRUST!

Luc DeverauxToronto, Ont. - My fellow gaming Canadians and hopefully easily impressible (and possibly bribable) Xbox Canada officials— I, Luc Deveraux have decided to submit my nomination to attend the X'09 event to be held on September 29th of this year in the great city of Toronto. I was nominated on behalf of my fellow inmates (at the very fine website of Xbox360Asylum.ca) to be the official candidate for The Asylum.

I represent a fine group of brave gaming men and women who cannot attend the event as they are busy defending this great country of ours against zombies, Nazis and zombie Nazis. Read on for more information.

Batman: Arkham Asylum does not look like it will any help to ensure it will be a huge success. The game has plenty of momentum with a great story, an amazing demo and plenty of positive hype surrounding it. It's virtually guaranteed to become an instant classic. Still it's getting a huge help in the price department, at least in Canada. It all began with Wal-Mart advertising the game in stores, in their flyer and even on the Xbox 360 Spotlight channel for the low price of only $38.83. For those not very good at math, that is $35.59 US or more than $24 off the US retail price. EBGames soon followed suit by offering pre -orders for the game at the same $38.83 price point and tonight FutureShop and BestBuy did the same. So for the first time that I can remember, a AAA title will be sold on consoles for cheaper than its PC counterpart. The real question here is how it this possible? Read on for more ranting.

Needless to inform you all that the new NXE Update has been release and with it the full power of the Avatar Marketplace. The new virtual store is loaded with all kinds of game related goods that just make me wish there was a real store like this. Till then, my virtual doppleganger will benefit from my misfortune. Here is is fully decked out in the latest pirate related apparel. The only change is the inclusion of a Lightsaber. Let that Guybrush person mess with me know. Never mess with a well armed pirate. It has been a while since I have made a personal blog. So what prompted me to do so, well I (along with everyone else) have been selected to preview the new NXE updates and I just wanted to spend a few minutes informing all you fine readers that have way to many games to play and never got around to signing up for the update preview program what you can expect come August 11th.

For those hoping for a drastic change such as we experienced when we upgraded from the old blade interface to the NXE will be a bit disappointed. Once the update was applied, I had to really run around to spot anything different. In short, the update did not change much, but what it does change does make using the NXE a lot less frustrating. The Pittsburgh Penguins have avenged their cup lost last year to the Detroit Red Wings by winning the Stanley Cup in a thrilling game 7 match. Many hockey fans, myself included, had counted the Penguins out once Detroit took a commanding 2-0 lead in the best of 7 finals, but the Pens, lead by the great play of Malkin, Talbot and crew (no thanks to you Sidney) fought back and staved off elimination twice to win the coveted trophy.

Congrats Pittsburgh, enjoy your victory.

The rumours of the Zune HD has now been confirmed by Microsoft as true. This is great news, but quite puzzling as well. Why has Microsoft revealed this device, only days before their pre-E3 press conference. Surely the Zune HD is big news, but what is the Zune HD is not the big news. What if the news of the Zune HD is nothing more than a morsel of meat for the media and blog hounds to chew on while the real steak is safely locked away. This steak being Microsoft's elusive xYz Project. Read on (if you dare).

This is the view from outside my house, on MARCH 30th. I would have posted the picture sooner, but power has only returned in the past hour. Florida was so nice.
